1
Jerusalem
Acts 6:1-6; 8:1
Philip is one of the seven chosen to serve at tables. After the stoning of Stephen persecution breaks out, and the believers are scattered. Philip goes to Samaria.
2
Samaria
Acts 8:4-13
Philip proclaims Christ in Samaria. The crowds listen and see the signs – unclean spirits come out, the paralysed and the lame are healed. "There was much joy in that city." Simon the sorcerer believes and is baptised.
3
The road to Gaza
Acts 8:26-29
An angel says to Philip: "Rise and go south, on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza – it is a desert road." He obeys without question. Here he meets a chariot with an Ethiopian official.
4
Meeting the official
Acts 8:29-35
In his chariot the official is reading aloud from Isaiah 53: "Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter…" Philip asks: "Do you understand what you are reading?" – "How can I, unless someone guides me?" Philip climbs up and, starting from this scripture, tells him the good news about Jesus.
5
The place of baptism
Acts 8:36-38
"See, here is water – what prevents me from being baptised?" They both go down into the water, and Philip baptises him.
6
Ashdod
Acts 8:39-40
The Spirit of the Lord carries Philip away. The official sees him no more but goes on his way rejoicing. Philip finds himself at Ashdod and preaches the gospel in all the towns until he reaches Caesarea.
7
Caesarea
Acts 8:40; 21:8
Philip settles in Caesarea. Twenty years later Paul stays with him on his last journey to Jerusalem. Luke calls him "Philip the evangelist, one of the seven". He has four unmarried daughters who prophesy.
