7
Joppa
Acts 9:36-43
The disciple Tabitha (Dorcas) has died. Peter kneels and prays. "Tabitha, arise!" She opens her eyes and lives. Peter stays in Joppa with Simon the tanner by the sea.
8
Joppa – the vision on the roof
Acts 10:9-23
Peter prays on the roof at noon. He sees a sheet let down from heaven with all kinds of animals. "Kill and eat!" Peter refuses. "What God has made clean, do not call common." Three times. Cornelius' messengers knock at the door.
9
Caesarea – the house of Cornelius
Acts 10:24-48
The turning point. Peter preaches in the Roman officer's house: "God shows no partiality." The Holy Spirit falls on all the Gentiles present. Peter orders them to be baptised. The gospel is for all nations.
10
Jerusalem – defending the mission to the Gentiles
Acts 11:1-18
Peter is criticised for eating with the uncircumcised. He tells of the vision and of the Holy Spirit coming upon the Gentiles. The church falls silent and praises God: "Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life!"
11
Jerusalem – Herod's prison
Acts 12:1-17
Herod Agrippa imprisons Peter, guarded by four squads of soldiers. The church prays without ceasing. In the night an angel wakes Peter, the chains fall off, and the iron gate opens by itself. Peter knocks at the house of Mary, Mark's mother. In her joy the servant girl Rhoda forgets to open the door.
12
"Another place"
Acts 12:17
After his release Peter asks them to tell James and the brothers – and he himself leaves for "another place". Luke does not say where. Peter's time as the main figure of Acts is over; Paul takes over.
13
Jerusalem – the Council
Acts 15:6-11
Peter's last appearance in Acts. He stands up at the Council and reminds them of Cornelius: "God, who knows the heart, gave them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us. Why then do you put a yoke on the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear?"
