Trip stops (10)

Anathoth Jer 1:1; 11:21-23 Jeremiah's home town, a priestly town in the land of Benjamin north-east of Jerusalem. Later his own townsmen seek his life.
Jerusalem – the temple Jer 7:1-15; 26:1-24 The temple sermon in the gate of the temple: the temple is no guarantee if the people do not repent. The sermon leads to a trial in which Jeremiah only just escapes the death sentence.
The Valley of Hinnom (Topheth) Jer 18:1-12; 19:1-15 After his visit to the potter's house Jeremiah goes out through the Potsherd Gate to Topheth in the Valley of Hinnom and smashes an earthenware jar as a sign of the city's destruction.
The Euphrates (Perath) Jer 13:1-11 Jeremiah hides a linen belt at Perath and later fetches it, ruined. Some see a real journey to the Euphrates (marked here at Carchemish), others a symbolic act or the spring Ein Prat a few km from Anathoth.
The Benjamin Gate Jeremiah 37:11-15 During a lull in the siege Jeremiah wants to go to the land of Benjamin to settle an inheritance, but he is arrested in the gate, accused of deserting to the Babylonians and thrown into prison in the house of Jonathan. The exact location of the gate is uncertain.
Jerusalem – the court of the guard Jer 37:16-21; 38:1-28 King Zedekiah has him moved to the court of the guard by the king's palace. The officials let him down into the cistern of Malchiah, but Ebed-melech pulls him out. He stays in the court of the guard until the city falls.
Ramah Jeremiah 40:1-4 Jeremiah is taken in chains with the exiles to Ramah, where Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, sets him free and lets him choose where to live.
Mizpah Jer 40:5-6; 41:1-10 Jeremiah settles with Gedaliah, the governor appointed by Babylon. Ishmael murders Gedaliah and his men at Mizpah.
Geruth Chimham near Bethlehem Jer 41:16-18; 42:1-43:7 The survivors gather near Bethlehem on their way to Egypt. Jeremiah prays for them and warns them not to go to Egypt, but he is not heeded.
Tahpanhes (Daphnae) Jer 43:7-13; 44:1 A border fortress in the eastern Nile Delta. Jeremiah is forced to come here and buries stones at Pharaoh's palace as a sign that Nebuchadnezzar will come to Egypt too.
